That's the only use I can imagine for a 'civilian' flight sim. On the other hand, buying/pirating FSX isn't a real dilemma for me and it won't be unless I need to train navigation for real flight. What I'm trying to say is that IF I pirated FSX (which I don't), I wouldn't feel bad for MS. I can understand small companies like 777 going Windows-only because that's pretty much the only platform for games and they have only so many resources, but the big guys of gaming have enough resources to make all the *nix versions they want, and Natural Point could make some *nix drivers in 2 hours… (*tin foil hat on*) sometimes I wonder if MS bribes gaming software and hardware companies to stay Windows-only (*tin foil hat off*)ĪND YES, I KNOW: 1- it's still illegal, 2- it's a lame excuse, 3- I shouldn't argue in favor of any illegal activities, and 4- i'm not really forced to buy Windows, I could give up on games or keep running XP for less than $100.Īll those points are valid, and I do not encourage software piracy. I'm basically forced to use a shitty, unstable $300 OS because some 95% of game developers don't even consider the possibility of porting their games to real OS's ('real OS' = Unix-based), not to mention TrackIR only making drivers for Windows. Then again, MS got enough of our money, already. Most FSX addons do already work with it however after some tweaking since its based on the same code. Most will migrate to it eventually but it's still early days. If you want the sequel to FSX, then Lockheed have released the first version of Prepar3d. If you want to spend months learning to be the Captain or a 737, 747, MD-11, or 777(soon) then buying one of these planes from PMDG is like buying a study sim in its own right. " onclick="window.open(this.href) return false "> ĭigital aviation also made the Dornier Do-27 and it's a little older but still very detailed.ĭon't bother with Helicopters though unless it is Dodosim 206 " onclick="window.open(this.href) return false "> įor scenery nothing compares to ORBX if you want North America or Australia/NZ.Ĥ0% off for this month at Break your flaps and you'll need to repair it before next flight. Still largest community and therefore largest addons to choose from.īest GA aircraft I think is the Katana 4x with full systems and maintenance modeled. But is it a scam? Is it a real game that's worth the money? I don't know… So that's why I'd like to ask for your input and experienced advice on that one. Is there anything better on the market? I have DCS A-10C (thinking about Black Shark, but I might not have enough time), Rise of Flight, Il-2 Sturmovik '46 and Cliffs of Dover (it's pretty much unflyable in its current state, hopefully the upcoming patch will fix that soon).įor Flight Pro Sim, graphics look nice (with the Full Scenery pack that is) and it's currently on sale (67 bucks instead of 167 on their site). I know lots of people recommend FSX because it's free (but you can buy some planes if I heard correctly), but meh… graphics are not as pretty as those in Rise of Flight IMHO. So for objectivity, I don't know who to trust anymore. Indeed, I discovered that most review sites gain a "share" if people buy the sim on their site. I read SO MANY ridiculously positive reviews for Flight Pro Simulator, which made me immediately suspicious. So I thought I'd ask for advice to you grizzled vets of the sim world. I don't mind spending a few bucks for a high quality product, but I want to make my research first. I've been looking up on the internet a bit to know what's currently on the market, and I have stumbled into 3 games.įlight Gear, Flight Pro Simulator (which is a "scam", as people put it, a ripoff of Flight Gear), and Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I'm looking for a civilian aircraft simulator.
